Opening During the Storm: Our COVID-19 Beginning
When we first opened Black House Salon, the world was in the throes of the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting a new business is always a leap of faith, but launching a salon amidst lockdowns, health concerns, and economic uncertainty was a particularly daunting challenge. The salon industry, inherently reliant on personal interactions, faced unprecedented hurdles. From implementing stringent health and safety protocols to navigating the waves of temporary closures and re-openings, we had our fair share of sleepless nights and tough decisions.
Yet, it was during these trying times that the true spirit of our community shone brightly. Our clients, despite the uncertainties, stood by us. They adapted to the new norms, showed patience with our safety measures, and continued to support us with their unwavering loyalty. For this, we are eternally grateful.

What does Success mean to us?
With four years in business under our belt, I have been taking some time to consider what success means to us as a business and to me as an individual. The definition of success means so many things to so many people and my own definition has probably changed over the years. If I had to sum it up in one word, i would have to say BALANCE. This is what I have tried to create for the staff who work within the salon and for myself too. The balance between finance and freedom, between time and money, between quality and quantity. Most of our stylists are now working a 4 day work week to enable them to find that balance and we have to say this has been a huge hit. Could we earn more money? Maybe. But can we get that time back? No. Burnout can be a real thing in this industry, being on your feet all day, often with no breaks can really take its toll and while peoples lives change outside of work, we are trying to maintain a healthy work-life balance to continue to deliver amazing hair for clients.

As we blow out the candles and celebrate this significant milestone, we are filled with hope and excitement for the future. We have navigated the ups and downs of the past four years with determination and a sense of community. The experiences have made us stronger, more resilient, and more united.
